Every attempt will be made to follow these weight guidelines but age/weight divisions may be combined at the discretion of the Judo Commissioners.

Competition Rules and Format:
Combining and Multiple Age/Weight Divisions; Method of Elimination: Color of Uniforms

1. A competitor who voluntarily enters an age or weight division that is higher than his or her normal division must abide by the rules of that division. Example: A competitor whose age would normally not allow the use of chokes (or armlocks), is subject to choking (or armlock) techniques if he or she voluntarily enters a division where chokes (or armlocks) are allowed.

2. Contestants may enter only one division per Category. Athletes may enter two (2) divisions if the divisions are in different Categories and the athlete meets the qualifications for both divisions (age, weight, rank, etc.) Examples: Junior AND Senior; Senior AND Masters.
Contestants who compete in two categories must submit two entry forms and pay two entry fees.

3. All divisions may be modified at the discretion of the Judo Commissioners depending on the weight range of the contestants entered and after considering fairness and safety of the competitors. Coaches, competitors and parents will be advised before competition begins of any published weight category that is changed.

4. Current International Judo Federation (IJF) rules (www.ijf.org), including “Golden Score” overtime, as modified below for local competition will be in effect.

5. If a modified safety area size around the competition area is used, 1994 IJF rules for boundaries will be used.

6. Match Times: All Juniors, Novice and Masters will be 3 minute matches. All Seniors Regular divisions will be 5 minute matches.

7. Chokes and Armlocks: Juniors 5 - 12 yrs old - Chokes and Armlocks NOT allowed - Under 18 - Armlocks NOT allowed.

8. Elimination systems: More than 5 competitors: modified double elimination; 3-5 competitors: round-robin; 2 competitors: best 2 out of 3 matches.

9. Blue or White Judogis: All Competitors MUST have a white Judogi. Blue Judogi’s are optional and may only be worn by the competitor who is called first in a pair of contestants (the “blue” side). In all matches where both competitors are wearing white judogi’s, both competitors will remove their grade belts and wear a blue or white belt to identify the contestant’s designated color for the match. Contestants are requested to bring their own blue belt and white belt for use on the “blue” or “white” side. This will insure that your belt will fit properly. Mark your belt with your name or your club’s name.

10. Current registration and insurance with either USA JUDO, USJF, or USJA is mandatory. USA Judo membership will be available at check-in.
Any situation not covered by the above will be decided by the Judo Commissioners after considering the safety of, and fairness to, all contestants.
