2017 First Quarter Outlook - Message From the CJL President

Hi Everyone!

Happy New Year!  We are starting the year off with a lot of exciting upcoming events. Here is what's happening as I know it:

January 21 - OTC Winter Classic Judo Tournament - Colorado Springs, CO - The entry form is attached but you can also register online at: www.mytournamentonline.com.

January 21 - 8:30am - before the OTC Winter Classic - CJL State Meeting - if you have any items you would like to be added to the agenda, will you please email me at graphic2goddess@yahoo.com or call/text me at 314/960-4228

February 11 - Open Workout - Ju Shin Kan Judo Club  - 3011 N. Prospect Street, Suite 120,  Colorado Springs, CO – I need to finalize times with Paul so will report back later.

February 18 – 2:00pm – 4:00pm(ish) - New Rules Meeting with A-Referee Edson Mallo – Northglenn Recreation Center – 11801 Community Center Drive, Northglenn, CO 80233.  Northglenn’s Edson Mallo was one of the 12 International A Level Referees to be selected to represent the US in Baku, Azerbaijan at the Rules Meeting this last weekend.  He is bringing back the most up-to-date interpretations of the new rules and is sharing his new found knowledge with the members of Colorado Judo.

February 24-25 – Kata Clinic in Salina, KS.  I’m planning on driving down if anyone wants to tag along.  Friday night is Ju No Kata and Saturday is Nage No Kata.  Robin brings her students to support our Colorado events and I want to go support her in return.  Plus, kata is kool.  See what I did there?  Kool with a k…  Kata starts with k…?  Any hoo.

March 4 – Kito-Kan Judo Tournament – St. Louis, MO – this is my old judo club in Missouri so I’ll be flying back for it if anyone wants to come.  We’ll have places to stay and amazing BBQ to eat.  Oh, and there will be some judo.

March 11 – Denver Judo Spring Tournament – Denver, CO – entry packet coming soon.

April 8 – Colorado State Championships – Denver, CO – entry packet coming soon.
April 29-30 – Senior Nationals – Salt Lake City, UT – Saturday is all shiai, masters included and Sunday is kata competition and I believe a clinic.

We are also working on setting dates for some Senior Nationals training camps and an Open Workout at Front Range Judo’s new location.  I’ll report back on that when I have more info.
Here's a random "Did You Know" before I sign off:  Did you know that Kevin Brousard of the OTC Judo team was a speaker at TEDx Colorado Springs?  He had a great talk, “Enable the Disabled” which can be viewed here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZYNWW4M7yM  Well done, Kevin!

See you on the mat,
Tracy Crawford Hangley
